Description

A flavorful and easy-to-make Beijing Beef Stir-Fry that combines tender beef with colorful vegetables and a savory sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Cooked rice (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, toss the sliced beef with cornstarch until evenly coated. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to adhere.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef in batches, cooking until browned and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Remove the beef and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining oil. Add the sliced bell peppers and onion, stir-frying for about 3-4 minutes until they are tender-crisp.
  4. Add the minced garlic and ginger to the vegetables, cooking for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, and red pepper flakes. Pour this sauce over the vegetables in the skillet and stir to combine.
  6. Return the cooked beef to the skillet, tossing everything together until the beef is heated through and well-coated in the sauce, about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Serve the Beijing beef over cooked rice and garnish with chopped green onions.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, use leaner cuts of beef or substitute with chicken or tofu.
  • Add additional vegetables like broccoli or snap peas for extra color and nutrition.
