Description

A delicious and crispy chili beef recipe that combines tender flank steak with a flavorful sauce and colorful vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons chili paste (adjust to taste)
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the cornstarch, flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Toss the sliced flank steak in the mixture until well coated.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the coated beef in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and chili paste. Set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the sliced bell peppers and onion. Stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until slightly tender.
  5. Return the crispy beef to the skillet and pour the sauce over the mixture. Toss everything together to coat evenly and heat through for another 2 minutes.
  6. Serve immediately, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, double fry the beef by frying it once, letting it rest for a few minutes, and then frying it again.
  • Add vegetables like broccoli or snap peas for more color and nutrition.
  • Adjust the chili paste to your preferred spice level.
