Description

A delicious and flavorful oven-cooked barbecue brisket that is tender and perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ to 3 pounds beef brisket
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (your favorite brand)
  • ½ cup beef broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper (if using) to create a spice rub.
  3. Pat the brisket dry with paper towels and rub the spice mixture all over the meat, ensuring it’s evenly coated.
  4. Place the brisket in a roasting pan or a large baking dish, fat side up. Pour the beef broth around the brisket, but do not pour it over the meat.
  5. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Cook for 3 to 4 hours, or until the brisket is fork-tender.
  6. Remove the brisket from the oven and carefully take off the foil. Brush the barbecue sauce generously over the top of the brisket.
  7. Return the brisket to the oven, uncovered, and cook for an additional 30 minutes to caramelize the sauce.
  8. Once done, remove the brisket from the oven and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing against the grain.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the brisket in the spice rub overnight in the refrigerator before cooking.
  • Try using different barbecue sauces to customize the flavor, such as spicy, sweet, or smoky varieties.
