Ingredients

  • 1 cup sliced yellow onions
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup unsweetened almond milk
  • Oil for frying such as avocado or coconut oil

Method

  1. Begin by slicing the onions into thin rings and soaking them in a bowl of almond milk for at least 30 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine almond flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  3. In another bowl, beat the egg until well combined.
  4. Heat oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium heat, about 1 inch deep.
  5. Remove the soaked onions from the almond milk and let excess liquid drip off. Dip each onion ring into the beaten egg, then coat it in the almond flour mixture.
  6. Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil, frying in batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Transfer the fried onions to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Season with additional salt if desired.
  8. Serve warm as a crunchy topping for salads, burgers, or as a snack.
