Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon optional

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Whisk together until well mixed.
  2. Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Pour in the milk and stir until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
  4. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness.
  5. Cut the dough into circles using a biscuit cutter or a glass.
  6. In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F.
  7. Carefully drop the biscuit rounds into the hot oil, frying a few at a time to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  8. Remove the biscuits from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  9. In a small bowl, mix the honey and cinnamon (if using). Drizzle the honey mixture over the warm biscuits before serving.
