Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water about 110°F
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Stir until well mixed.
  2. Gradually add the warm water and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  7. Roll each piece into a rope about 6 inches long, then tie it into a knot.
  8. Place the knots on a greased baking sheet.
  9. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes.
  10. Brush the garlic butter mixture generously over the knots. Reserve some for brushing after baking.
  11. Bake the knots in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Remove from the oven and brush with the remaining garlic butter mixture. Serve warm.
